August Workshop - Caring for Sick Reptiles

This month we are going to take a look at caring for sick reptiles.  Everyone gets sick sometimes, including our pet reptiles.  We are going to learn about what to do when your pet snake, lizard, or tortoise just doesn’t look healthy.  Sometimes there are simple things you can do to care for your sick pet, other times you might have to take your pet to the vet.  This will be a great class and we are really excited for you to come!  Feel free to bring your friends and neighbors.  We will be handling a variety of animals and learning some very useful knowledge about pet care.  We will also be doing a fun activity that will relate to our topic.  You won’t want to miss this class!

Price Changes Effective Today July 15, 2009

As of today, July 15, 2009, our Large Show package price is $225 and our Medium Show package price is $200.  Travel fees still apply outside the Salt Lake Valley (inquire for your specific area).   Our animals are getting bigger and more exciting and therefore costs of such animals are going up.

July’s Public Workshop is on “BOAS”

This month’s workshop will be on everybody’s favorite snakes… BOAS!  It will be held on Wednesday, July 15th at 6:30pm.

Boas come in all different shapes and sizes.  The worlds heaviest snake is the “Water Boa” also called the ANACONDA. Did you know that we have boas that are local to Utah?  They live in our mountains are are called the Rubber Boa. Do you know the difference between Boas and Pythons?  Come to the workshop to at find out!

At this public workshop you will get to learn about and touch boas.  We even have a baby anaconda that you will get to meet named “Bejos”!  The activity will involve some creativity with balloon animals. You won’t want to miss it cause it will be a blast!

Price Changes & Credit Cards

Our package prices for our Medium & Large shows will be going up by $25 each.  The Medium show will be $200 and the Large show will be $225 (shows outside the Salt Lake Valley will still have a travel fee as well).  These prices will become effective as of 7/15/09.  If you would like to take advantage of our current prices, please book your parties before 7/15/09.

Note: All parties booked prior to 7/15/09, will still be honored at price quoted at time of booking.

Scales & Tails now accepts all major credit cards.  Parties can be paid for at the show via cash, check or credit card.  Please notify us of your perferred choice of payment when booking your show.

We had a Tortoise & the Hare Race at Tortoise Night!

Tortoise night was so EXCITING!!  First we learned a little bit about different types of Chelonian’s (which are tortoises and turtles).  We got to meet the two new additions to Scales & Tails show: Flap & Jack who are Pancake Tortoises!!  Do you know what are cool about Pancake tortoises??  They are soft and a bit squishy so they can hide under rocks and get away from predators!  So cool!  Next we turned ourselves into tortoises by making tortoise shells out of plates.  Then finally we got to put the old folk tale to the test.  Can the tortoise really beat the hare in a race???  We matched our two redfoot tortoises, Fuzzy Wuzzy and Daisy, up to a hare we borrowed from Jim Dix of the reptile rescue.  We lined them up at the starting line and dropped the flag… and to our suprise… it wasn’t the hare that was winning!  We coaxed the hare and the tortoises with carrots and salad and by golly it was the tortoises that won!!!

We had such a fun night and are looking forward to July’s Reptile Workshop… I hear there might be Anaconda’s there… stay tuned!
