Have you ever heard of the Komodo Dragon?? The Komodo Dragon is actually the Komodo Monitor. The biggest lizards in the world are Monitors! We have several Monitor Lizards that many of you may recognize such as Bug (Black Throat Monitor), Zig Zag (Nile Monitor), Hydro & TnT (both are Asian Water Monitors). We will be bringing all these cool lizards to our November workshop where you will get to learn all about their lifestyles, habits, and eating preferences. We will also be feeding the lizards! Be forewarned, some of the things we feed the Monitors can be pretty disgusting, like raw eggs, raw ground turkey, cockroaches and worms! This is going to be a super cool workshop so make sure you RSVP to rindy@scalesandtailsutah.com. Feel free to invite your friends, neighbors, and cousins! You won’t want to miss it!

What better way to spend October and Halloween then with a bunch of spiders & scorpions!! Come out to our Reptile Rookie night and learn about some of the coolest creepy crawlers on the planet!! Guest speaker, Zach Valios, will be giving us an in depth tour of where spiders & scorpions live, what they eat, how dangerous they can be or might not be, as well as why scorpions glow in the dark.

Zach Valois, an undergraduate student at Salt Lake Community College, UT, was born in Pocatello, Idaho. He has been interested in invertebrate biology since he was a child and spent the last six years working with arachnids in the field. Since 2007, Zach has assisted the NSF-REVSYS Vaejovidae project with fieldwork throughout Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, California, and Utah. He has also assisted the UMNH with curating and cataloging the collection, in addition to volunteering for Dr. Brent E. Hendrixson, Millsaps University, with fieldwork throughout Arizona, California, and Nevada. Zach is a member of the American Arachnological Society and the American Tarantula society. Zach’s current interests involve taxonomy and systematics of North American Vaejovidae and Phelsuma geckos. Zach plans to continue his education and would like to go into the field of teaching.

We will also have some cool glow in the dark activities that you kids will love so make sure to come out and see us for our October Workshop! This is open to the public, so invite your friends, tell your neighbors, and pass it on to your school buddies! Hope to see you there!! Happy Creepy Crawly Halloween!
