January Workshop >>> SCORPIONS

December 31st, 2008 | Comments Off on January Workshop >>> SCORPIONS | Posted in Scales And Tails

For this month’s workshop we are changing our focus to something a little different…we are going to take a deeper look at SCORPIONS!  Since we use scorpions in some of our shows we decided it would be fun to learn a little more about them. We will learn about the least veneomous scorpion, the African Emperor, on up to the most dangerous scorpion, the Dealth Stalker as well as a couple in between. Did you know that scorpions GLOW under a black light? And since they do glow, we will also be going on a cool scorpion hunt using black lights!

Recap of Python Night

December 31st, 2008 | Comments Off on Recap of Python Night | Posted in Scales And Tails

Our December reptile workshop was so much fun!!  This month we focused on PYTHONS.  We started out the night with a little bit of snake handling while we waited for everyone to gather.  Then Shane Richins took us though a variety of the pythons we had on hand.  We experienced Blood Pythons, Reticulated Pythons, Ball Pythons, Bermese Pythons and then ended with Rock Pythons. The Rock python led us to our super cool activity of the night!  We got to pretend to hunt Rock Pythons in the wild. We each got a turn at crawling into an “ardvark tunnel” in search of a snake.  When we found it, we pulled and pulled and with the help of our buddies on the outside of the tunnel we were able to pull that giant python out of the tunnel. See the gallery below.

December Reptile Workshop – “PYTHONS”

This month’s Reptile Workshop will be on Pythons!!  Have you ever wanted to wrestle with a python?  Come on I know you crazy reptile fans have!  Shane is going to introduce us to several of the pythons we have on hand as well as a bit about their background. Afterwards we are going pretend to hunt ROCK PYTHONS!  Rock Pythons hide in Ardvark tunnels.  Snake hunters in Africa take a torch and an Antelope skin wrapped around their arm as they crawl through these tunnels in search of Rock Pythons.  They have to be careful that there isn’t an ardvark still in there because they can be buried alive!  Once they find the python they have to wrestle it back out to where their friends are waiting on the outside of the hole to help them pull the snake out.  Then they sell it for $30!  We are going to try to simulate that experience. So get ready to go snake hunting!!
